More than a Health walk…Great for mental health

So week in week out since June 2014, we have been doing our lunchtime walk with our wonderful participants. I do not only lead it because of the obvious health and fitness benefits it brings people who attend, but also for the simple reason of meeting some amazing people from all walks of life. It also improves mental health….

The happy and not so happy stories we share, the interesting experiences, the brand new recipe, the various cultures we explore, the ‘getting to know people bit’, all make it worthwhile. Just priceless!

Today, it was beautiful to see our swan again nesting and just talking about that was interesting and a great learning experience.

All about swans….Did you know that swans symbolize beauty and grace on many levels? In Roman mythology, swan was sacred to Venus, the goddess of love. Swans can get aggressive. If you approach a swan nest on the river, they might get a little aggressive and flap their wings to scare you away. They are only trying to protect their own.

If you would like to join our FREE walk, we meet at the Corn Market Hall, Kettering most Wednesdays 12.30pm. Dogs on leads and babies in buggies are welcome. Please contact Aba on 07725685090 for more information.

Something to nibble on?

When the sun comes out, nibbling on celery sticks can be really beneficial. Not only is it great for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, high fibre content, plus its low calorie count (16 calories per 100g), but it can also help you reduce your wasteline and stress levels when combined with a healthy and active lifestyle.

If you cut them up and put them into a container with water in the kitchen or wherever you spend time day and night, you will find yourself heading for this instead of chocolate, biscuits or cake!

Enjoy💚

People make the difference…

By Aba Wilson-Morkeh

I love Challenges not only because of the routine and structure it brings, but more because of the people and the fun they bring. People join a group and do not really know each other, but there is a common purpose that draws them together. The purpose of becoming better than the old self!

What is even more rewarding is the thought that someone you least expected to stick to a programme would go on and smash it because of the sheer encouragement and support they get from others, among other factors.

So our next Challenge – the 4 week flat belly challenge is going to be a friendly competition amongst people to see who will get the most results. However, its really about competing against oneself and getting into better habits than before.

It kicks off on 5 November for 4 weeks and the aim is to focus on changing some old habits, eating healthier but yummy meals and doing more regular and slightly different exercises than say walking alone. For some people, this is not going to be easy. It will take a degree of discipline and positive attitude to get through, but it will be worth it in the end.

All the £10 entry fee will go towards the prize money which will go to the top three winners.

Please contact us if interested in participating.

The ups and downs of my 90 day challenge…

This was my second wave of #thesixpackrevolution and it started in January. I was committed to sticking to plan. This time I felt much stronger and was ready to face the burpees!!

I knew it would not be easy though because there was a birthday and a couple of celebrations to add to the mix. Imagine being on holiday and being a total teetotaler! I was also in Italy where I would normally succumb to at least one or two delicious pasta dishes and melt in your mouth pizzas! Indeed I was told that Naples makes one of the best pizzas and I would be mad not to try them!

That beautiful holiday was one of my biggest temptations ever. We nevertheless enjoyed it unscathed! It helped that the accommodation was self catering and indeed, it was part of the masterplan, so that I could prepare my delicious, quick and healthy snacks. Eggs, chicken, fish, cottage cheese, olives and vegetables were easy to obtain from a supermarket nearby.

After all this was my lifestyle and I was determined not to let anything ruin my challenge. Breakfast and lunch were sorted as I had my Herbalife with me – Life saver!

Dinners were easier than I thought. The highlight of my day was to search for restaurants that made simple grilled chicken or fish and side veg. No desert for me but then I knew I would have meal number 6 back at the apartment. My husband as usual was very supportive and did not offer me wine or prossecco!

The workouts were fun and easy to do too! I remember doing the abs, daily squats and press ups and Spartan bodyweight challenge twice in our apartment in Sorrento and once at the gym in our Naples hotel.

So anyway after holidays, we came home and was faced with more celebrations when our daughter arrived home after a long trip! But again I put my lean team mentality cap back on and managed it. Meal prepping and freezer stocking up meant no room for temptations. On the night when we went out, I picked a delicious Thai seabass steamed dish with ginger and veg.

So all in all, I would say the most challenging wave for me but it was thrilling at the same time. There were not going to be any excuses. I was determined to go around and hop over the obstacles, as Scotty would say.

So to me, having a fairly high social life means I need my 90 Day Challenges to keep me in check. Here is to my next Challenge to start in May and I cannot wait. Join me….. Lets do it!

Aba’s Quinoa salad

I love this beautiful quinoa salad, which can be for all occasions and seasons, not just in the Summer.

You will need:

1 cup of quinoa, cooked and cooled

2 handfuls of cress and watercress

1 medium avocado, cut into squares

Half of red and yellow peppers, sliced

Can of mixed beans in vinigrette

30g feta cheese, cut

Add quinoa to a large bowl

Add all other ingredients together and mix with fork.

Garnish with peppers

Enjoy with grilled chicken or fish or on it’s on as a salad x
